tips & tricks for growth

parenting a strong-willed child

As parents of strong-willed children, we have to balance parenting without breaking their will. I want my children to be successful, independent adults who care about and positively influence others.

Strengthen your relationship with your strong-willed child:

💪 Help them learn through experience.

💪 Offer explanations as to why.

💪 Stick to your word.

💪 Offer choices.

💪 Listen to them.

Parenting a strong-willed child may require constant adjustment. Take the time to learn about your child’s needs. You have the opportunity to help your strong-willed child grow into the natural-born leader that they are.

narcissism in relationships

Narcissism is one of those words that people use a lot. Have you heard something similar to these statements?

  • He only cares about himself. Only doing what’s best for him. He’s so selfish.
  • She is so into what she looks like. Did you see all those selfies? She’s such a narcissist.
  • Did he really just take all the praise for that project? He didn’t even acknowledge those who helped him.

🫣 While many of us may have narcissistic traits, it’s essential to recognize that there are levels of narcissism, and that Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is something altogether different. NPD is a legitimate mental health condition. According to Christina Gregory, Ph.D., “narcissism exists on a spectrum: On one side, it’s craving the occasional compliment. On its darkest side, it can creep into pathological territory.”

So, are you dealing with narcissism or narcissistic personality disorder?

That’s a great question, and being in a relationship with someone who’s a narcissist is not an easy thing to deal with. So, let’s take a look…

let’s get REALatable

It’s time to take things a step further & get a little intimate with a Q&A. What do you say?😉 Learn a little bit about the faces behind all of this relationship gold. This week we’re chatting with  Mitchell Qualls, husband of 17 years to his wife  Dalet, a dad of 2, and the VP of Operations here at First Things First. Let’s get REALatable💛 & learn a little bit about him:

Q: Would you rather watch a movie or TV show?

A: 📺 Ohh, that’s a tough one. Depends on my options. I love a good movie but there a few shows I’d watch non-stop. If I had to make a choice in a moment, give me “The Big Bang Theory” anytime.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?

A: ⚾️ I really wanted to be a baseball player or work for a Major League team. Sadly, neither happened. There’s still hope though…to work for a team. I’m too old to be out there playing baseball.

Q: Favorite way to workout?

A: 🏃 I really enjoy running. I’ve never been the biggest fan of working out but running has become my go to. It’s a nice mental reset.
